Is a book, that covers the story of four mice who live in a maze and look for cheese to nourish them in life.

Here, the word ‘Cheese’ is a metaphor for what you have in lifeーwhether it is a good job, a loving relationship, money or a possession, health or spiritual peace of mind.

And the maze is where you look for what you wantーthe organization you work in, the family, or the community you live in.

This book shows us how to: Anticipate change, Adapt to change quickly, Enjoy change, and Be ready to change quickly, again and again.

Let’s discover what this book has taught me in how to deal with my case.

Oh, No Changes?

Having Cheese Makes You Happy.

Who doesn’t relish landing a job after months of searching? Of course, it’s logical to be glad and excited at the notion of starting a new career immediately, right? From counting down the days until planning my outfit and shoes before my first day of work. The first day of work, as well as the months that followed, were both enjoyable and challenging.

The More Important The Cheese Is To You, The More You Want To Hold On To It.

I can’t believe it’s been 4–5 months since I started working. It hasn’t been long, but I’m loving it. The children, the school atmosphere, the other professional teachers, and the commute to work. Although the working days are longer, I enjoy it.

I concluded, “Ah, this job is truly right for me,” and “Maybe this is where I belong.” will be enough to be my worry-free thoughts.

Change Happens

They Keep Moving The Cheese.

On the last day of the sixth month, I received a termination notice from the manager. I didn’t expect this to happen at first, but I casually accepted the letter, thinking to myself, “oh, maybe this would be okay.” In this point, I believe my manager has “moved my cheese,” which was previously located at the perfect location, now has been removed, shifted, or maybe gone.

If You Do Not Change, You Can Become Extinct.

There are a lot of things that make me wonder. Why? Why me? Why now? Why it has to be like this? Although it’s accompanied by reasonable reasons, I believe it is unjust.

On the same day, I start looking for another work until next week. Of course, this was accompanied by tears because it came as a shock and I had no intentions for the future.

What Would You Do If You Weren’t Afraid?

If I wasn’t afraid of work changes that came out of nowhere, I wouldn’t be this hopeless. If only I wasn’t terrified, I’d already have a backup plan to deal with this unexpected changes.

Anticipate Changes

Smell The Cheese Often So You Know When It Is Getting Old.

I should have been able to “smell” the movement of my ‘cheese.’ It may appear simple, but how can we recognize when a job is suddenly managed to lose? Perhaps my ‘cheese’ hasn’t been around long enough, but at the very least, I should be ‘conscious’ of whatever I have now.

Monitor Changes

Movement In A New Direction Helps You Find New Cheese.

I start looking for a new ‘route’ once I’m calm enough and ‘conscious’ of change. Although I believe this is a little late, I did try to locate my new ‘cheese.’ Just in case I’m actually out of the previous place, I’ll apply to a few of other position opportunities.

Adapt To Change Quickly

When You Stop Being Afraid, You Feel Good!

Finally, I was free of fear. Even though I’m still concerned, my fear doesn’t seem to have grown too large. Days went as normal while I wait for another new job notification.

The Quicker You Let Go Of Old Cheese, The Sooner You Can Enjoy New Cheese

This is the main point of my story. When I began “truly and honestly” to gave up my previous job, I was pulled back to it and even received a better offer. I’m delighted, but the sense of being surprised and unexpected is even more so. Of course, I accepted the offer right away, reasoning that it was probably for the best.

Change

Move With The Cheese

Finally, over the next few weeks, I began to adjust to the new environment. I used to have to prepare a class for a group of kids, but now I have to do for couple of kids. At this moment, I’m feeling like “Hey, Now I’m moving with my new cheese!”

Enjoy Change!

Savor The Adventure And Enjoy The Taste Of New Cheese!

Soon, I’ll be able to enjoy my working days yet again. I began to feel my ‘new cheese flavor.’ from now on.

Be Ready To Change Quickly And Enjoy It Again & Again

They Keep Moving The Cheese

But my adventure and journey certainly does not end here. Maybe I can say it’s just getting started.

It is really possible that this cheese will run out or become unavailable at some point; nevertheless, there are likely to be lots of other cheeses on the other side of the road.

The possibilities are endless, but it is not our duty to constantly worry about and speculate on them. The one we can control is ourselves, knowing our next destination and preparing everything to that goal.

Of course, I hope that this story can serve as a reminder not just to me, but also to others who may have had similar experiences.
